Do you have high blood pressure, pre diabetes or many other health issues related to excess weight? Do you think fasting for your health might help?

Well, I guess it depends on who is discussing this topic. Many doctors do not think it is. But many health advocates feel it is.Fasting for your health

If you are very overweight it might motivate you to get started losing weight. Nothing helps as much as a short fast for a quick start up to losing weight. If you fast for a few days to a week you could see some significant changes in the scale and that is great motivation to continue on your weight loss journey.

How long should you fast?

I’m not recommending a month long fast or fasting long enough to lose 50 pounds, but something to just give you a jump-start towards your weight loss goals. It’s amazing how a few days with just having liquids will help with curbing the craving for all the junk food that we have been consuming

Especially if you have high blood pressure, borderline diabetes, asthma  or any of the other common health issues associated with extra weight, you definitely will benefit from  fasting. Also if you are overweight you will surely have bad eating habits. Doing a fast will help with food addiction and craving for the wrong foods.

You can get rid of the toxins in your system and give your digestive system a rest. If you don’t have any serious health issues maybe a fast will help you get on track to a better and healthier lifestyle. I know if I fast for a few days then I’m not as obsessed with food and it’s easier to streamline my diet. Especially if you have been eating all the pre-processed, fried and sugar-laden food that so many of us have gotten accustomed to. It’s hard to give up all those calorie laden foods that are pushed at us all the time on television or driving by all the fast food restaurants.

Let’s face it a calorie is still a calorie

It all comes down to how much we consume in calories. We used to be told to burn more calories than we consume. Well let’s look at that theory. If you burn 1,500 calories and you consume 1,500 calories you will break even. It takes burning 3,500 calories to lose 1 pound of weight. To lose 10 pounds of weight you have to cut your calories by 35,000. That seems pretty hard, and that is why fasting is an effective tool to jump start your weight loss journey.Fast for you health

The low carb approach is also effective.

I know that the low carb diet has been very helpful to many dieters, but not everyone wants to eat like that. Just meat, poultry, fish and vegetables. No bread, rolls or others goodies. If you are not able or don’t want to eat like that remember you can go back to counting calories.

Always check with your health care provider before you embark on any major changes in your diet. But if you don’t feel any bad affects from starting a fast, I think it can be very beneficial to your over all health. Plus the added benefits of having more energy, being able to move better are all good reasons to get started with losing weight and improving your over all health.
